The soil agarwood, often called clay agarwood, is a very rare agarwood form that was buried under earth for a large amount of time, decades and also centuries, becoming, when cleaned, with a rotten aspect and that is extremely resinated, so usable for oud oil extraction, also if due to its scarcity, the cost is often very prohibitive. If the soil agarwood pieces are already very rare to find, its oil is extremely rarer yet, near impossible to find.

So, that dead wood pieces, too dense and old for the life of the tree, fall down and then are buried by the soil, becoming part of it. Next, thanks to the absorption of subsoil minerals and long complex natural processes, undergoes the formation of the soil agarwood resin with the particular and unique smell.

Soil agarwood oil has a distinctive status odor, depend from typologies of soil where it has lived for so long. It can have some notes similar to fresh watermelon along with sweet notes of cream and earth, like in the case of the well known red soil of Vietnam, or can have a more stronger animalic and sweet earthy note like some Philippines soil agarwood, or different yet.

The soil agarwood chips has a big cost also for the density and the high amount of resin inside, thanks to the water formed in clay, humidity, mineral concentration and general conditions of the specific yellow or red clay.

Having been naturally buried for a large time, most of the wood fibres would have dissolved, so what you can find are often pieces completely sprinkled of unique intense resin.

It is very difficult to find a real soil agarwood oil; some of the most known soil agarwoods are Leyte from Philippines, Fu Sen red soil from Vietnam and soil agarwood from Papua New Guinea, gyrinops or filaria; that last is the one we are presenting.
